President-Elect, 2017 National Association of Specialty Pharmacy (NASP)
Mike is the President of Amber Pharmacy, as well as President and a founder of Hy-Vee Pharmacy Solutions (HPS), a specialty pharmacy that provides services throughout the Midwest. HPS was one of the first specialty pharmacies in the nation to offer specialty services at retail locations.
Mike is responsible for the vision and growth of Amber Pharmacy, as well as all strategic and operational aspects of the organization.
Previous work includes serving as the Vice President, Pharmacy Innovation and Business Development for Hy-Vee and Vice President of Managed Care Sales for Walgreens.
Mike is extremely active in the pharmacy community. In addition to his participation in the National Association of Pharmacy, he is an instructor for the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s pharmacy program, an editorial board member for Specialty Pharmacy Times and the author of many published articles. He is also very involved in supporting non-profit, economic and community organizations, including serving on the Board of Directors for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Mike holds a Bachelor of Science Pharmacy Degree from Northeastern University.
Micaila Ruiz, PharmD, R.Ph
Chief Pharmacy Officer
Micaila provides leadership and oversight for all operational functions, including the Customer Account Department and all pharmacy locations (Chicago, Dallas, Philadelphia, Omaha and Hy-Vee Pharmacy Solutions), and clinical operations. Micaila previously worked at Hy-Vee, Inc., starting as a pharmacy manager in 2011; she was quickly promoted to pharmacy supervisor in 2014. Before her career with Hy-Vee, Micaila was a regional supervisor for Health Mart. Micaila received her doctorate of pharmacy degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
John leads the Accounting Department and is responsible for financial planning and reporting, accounting and budget management functions. Prior to joining Amber Pharmacy in 2016, John worked at Hy-Vee, Inc. for 14 years and held various positions, including Internal Audit, Financial Reporting Supervisor and most recently Director, Financial Reporting. John graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Northern Iowa.
Jo Ann Hyres
Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing
Jo Ann is responsible for all marketing corporate communications, client services, prescriber sales and account management, and human resources functions. Initially, Jo Ann worked as a consultant for Amber Pharmacy and eventually relocated from Florida to Omaha to join the company full-time in 2010. Jo Ann strategically drives sales and works to ensure marketing and sales initiatives are aligned to meet organizational goals. She also oversees clinical services and efforts to ensure Amber Pharmacy has the most talented professionals in the industry to provide exceptional customer service.
Senior Vice President, Reimbursement and Billing
Peggy oversees regulatory, compliance, audit, and accreditation initiatives throughout the organization. Peggy was one of Amber Pharmacy’s first employees, joining the company the year it was founded in 1998. Over time she has witnessed dramatic change as the company expanded from four employees to more than 170. Peggy has fulfilled many roles, including Vice President of Billing Services. Prior to joining Amber she worked in a home health care business.
Senior Vice President, Trade Relations
Julie works directly with the pharmaceutical manufacturers building relationships, finding synergies and driving Amber Pharmacy’s initiatives forward. Julie started her career with the Upjohn Company in Omaha, Nebraska. Her most recent position prior to joining Amber Pharmacy in 2012 was with EMD Serono working in Managed Care Account Management.
Joseph Acierno, M.D., J.D.
Vice Presdient, Compliance; Compliance Officer
Joe supports core business and operational functions of Amber Pharmacy by acting as the in-house legal advisory counsel, with the primary purpose of ensuring corporate compliance with federal and state healthcare laws. In this position, Joe is responsible for directing development, implementation, and support of all compliance functions across the company, overseeing the contract management function, as well as serving as the Compliance Officer.
Previous positions include Director of the Division of Public Health / Chief Medical officer at the State of Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.
Joe holds a Doctorate Degree from Creighton University School of Law and a Doctorate Degree from Creighton University School of Medicine.
Vice President, Information Technology
Adam oversees all of the Information Technology Department and is responsible for the overall planning, organizing and execution of all IT functions at Amber Pharmacy. Prior to joining Amber Pharmacy in 2015, Adam held various positions at Hy-Vee, most recently serving as the Networks Systems Architect where he led the design and management of Hy-Vee’s systems and infrastructure.
