Hy-Vee Promotes Aaron Wiese to Vice President, Strategy/Innovation; Mike Agostino Reassumes Helm at Amber Pharmacy

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa  — Hy-Vee, Inc. announced today that Aaron Wiese, previous assistant vice president of Hy-Vee and president of Amber Pharmacy, has been promoted to a vice president position within Hy-Vee where he will help develop new health, wellness and pharmacy strategies. As a result of Wiese’s move to the executive ranks, Hy-Vee is pleased to announce that Mike Agostino has reassumed the helm of Amber Pharmacy as president.

Edeker says in their new roles, Agostino and Wiese will continue to make an influential team.

Hy-Vee acquired Amber Pharmacy in 2014 after the two companies had worked together over several years to create Hy-Vee Pharmacy Solutions. Agostino joined Amber Pharmacy in 2008 after previously working as a vice president of managed care sales for Walgreens, where his responsibilities included operations, sales, business development, small business solutions, contracting and client services. In 2014, he became vice president of Hy-Vee and president of Amber before assuming the pharmacy innovation/business development role in January 2016.

In addition to his leadership role at Amber, Agostino is extremely active in the pharmacy community. He is the president-elect for the National Association of Specialty Pharmacy, serves on the board and is a member of its executive committee, membership committee and government affairs committee. He is an instructor at the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s pharmacy program, an editorial board member for Specialty Pharmacy Times and the author of many published articles.

Wiese started his career at Hy-Vee in 1993 and served as an operations manager at Hy-Vee Care for four years. In 2012, he became director of real estate strategic planning before moving to health/wellness strategic planning in 2013. In October 2014, Wiese was promoted to assistant vice president of specialty pharmacy and vice president of Amber. A year later, he was promoted again to the chief operating officer role at Amber before taking over as president of the specialty pharmacy in 2016.

Amber Pharmacy Leads Peers in Patient Satisfaction

OMAHA, NEB. – A recent survey conducted by Zitter Health Insights shows Amber Pharmacy, a subsidiary of Hy-Vee, Inc. based in Omaha, Nebraska, ranks the highest out of all specialty pharmacies in the U.S. in the area of patient satisfaction with pharmacy employees.

The Zitter Health Insights survey allows specialty pharmacies to objectively assess how they are perceived by their patients as well as how they compare to competitor performance. The survey assessed numerous aspects of patient satisfaction and garnered responses from more than 3,000 patients across 38 American specialty pharmacies. Amber Pharmacy’s pharmacists, nurses, pharmacy technicians and billing department scored 100 percent while its customer service representatives scored 95 percent.

One of the key components of the survey is the Net Promoter Score (NPS) – an index of 1 to 100 that measures patients’ willingness to recommend their pharmacy to others. Amber Pharmacy’s NPS across all categories was 74. This score is the second highest of all pharmacies assessed and 23 points higher than the average of all specialty pharmacies evaluated in the survey including CVS Health, Walgreens and Accredo, among others.

In order to determine the NPS, patients were specifically asked on a scale of 0 to 10 how likely they would be to recommend a friend/family member to Amber Pharmacy. Approximately 65 percent of patients rated Amber Pharmacy a “10,” and 17 percent of patients gave Amber Pharmacy a rating of “9,” resulting in a total of 82 percent of patients giving Amber Pharmacy the highest rating possible.

Results were also disclosed for individual therapeutic categories. Among all pharmacies, Amber Pharmacy led the transplant category with an NPS of 83, and is among the top two pharmacies in the oncology and rheumatoid arthritis categories.

The survey was conducted between Aug. 1 and Oct. 24.
